I went to see Robyn Stacy's new work at Stills Gallery obviously because of this photograph: Butler's Tray and ended upstairs seeing for the first time a wonderful show by Roger Ballen (ends on the16th Sept). RB, like William Kentridge, lives and works in Johannesburg. "Spooky but intriguing" commented a few people in the gallery.

The works reminded me of a great American photographer Ralph Eugene Meatyard (1925-72) whose visual material kept me going throughout my art school days. Love this stuff on many levels - anything with a dash of black humour. The works below were less "disturbing" and have a drawing element (with animal) that appeals to me... entitled Trap and Oblivious, Shadow Chamber series 2003.

Afterwards ended up at I Heart Kings Cross as a part of the Art and About Sydney Festival.... what fun and wish we could have these mad knitters do something in my neighbourhood of Haberfield -especially on the ugly site where evil MacD. wants to invade. The installation sprawls throughout the Cross but mostly in the square of the needle fountain and includes blue work all over the police station too.
