These wonderful engravings are by Václav Hollar, a czech 17th century engraver who ended up working and living the second part of his life in England. His story is interesting but even more still are the variety of works that you can see at the University of Toronto's digital collection -including his whole muff series!
For some colour here is an oil by one of my fav baroque flemish animal painters Paul de Vos (1591-1678).
